I haven't been posting much lately so I decided to answer BTT's question (suggested by Chris at book-a-rama):
Have you ever fallen out of love with a favorite author? Was the last book you read by the author so bad, you broke up with them and haven’t read their work since? Could they ever lure you back?
I had no trouble coming up with an immediate response to this one - Patricia Cornwell. And as I'm thinking that my eyes go to a post in my Google reader by Fausti who took the words right out of my mouth. For so long I would avidly await Patricia Cornwell's next Kay Scarpetta novel. Even when they got really silly (Benton: dead or alive?) I remained a loyal reader and plodded through, sometimes yelling at the book while reading. But no more. There are just too many books I want to read (and not enough hours in the day) to torture myself and force myself to read a bad book by a once enjoyable author.

Jodi Picoult comes to mind. Tenth Circle was awful. I did read her next book, Nineteen Minutes which was a bit better.
Anytime an author starts churnin' 'em out, year after year, they start becoming b-o-r-i-n-g. The only exception for me is Daniel Silva and his Gabriel Allon thriller series. Gabriel is my hero!
Oh yes, Cornwall is definitely one for my list as well. I read the first ones avidly, but then she became so 'miserable' and 'poor me'. Dark I can deal with but miserable just makes me feel bad.
I'm sorry to hear that about Cornwell. I stopped with the book before Black Notice (I think that's the name) but not because I didn't enjoy her books. I just lost track of her.

Oh, my gosh, I SO agree! The last Scarpetta novel I read, I wondered how it was they were getting so bad. I used to really enjoy them.
Sometimes you just have to break it off ;)
I agree. Scarpetta just got bad to worse. I simply wanted throw the Cornwell books!

Seeing your post makes me glad I tend to read only a few books by most authors I encounter, and rarely devour an entire series. It would be so disappointing to see a series I loved go downhill.
I can completely agree with you on Cornwall. it's actually been so long since i read her that i had forgotten why i stopped until now.

Patricia Cornwell is one of the authors that lost my heart a few years ago. I ate up her earlier books, but then the quality of her writing started suffering. I stopped caring about the characters.
